In the tragic wake of recent youth killings in particular in Compton, former gang members with deep roots in Southern California stood side by side in solidarity, turning their attention towards public safety issues which LaMar Willis is concerned with. The proclamation of unity rang from the gathering of former gang members during LaMar Willis' mayoral election run. It was a sight many thought impossible just a few decades ago.

“Asking for help” and being open to the talents, expertise and insights of others is his show of strength that fills the gaps in his own aptitude. In many ways, it is the secret of his leadership success.
